Passing on the GGDOttawa dinner plate torch

A few years ago, I along with two other rockin’ ladies — Kelly and Veronica — decided to organize an Ottawa chapter of Girl Geek Dinners (GGDOttawa). Our goal was to form a community of women with a passion for technology.

Since 2009, this community has grown to over 1300 members strong and I’m incredibly honoured to count myself a part of this group.

We started this Ottawa chapter to provide a forum for women in this city to come and share ideas, innovations and knowledge.

Through these almost-monthly events we have featured some exceptional guest speakers. From entrepreneurs to CTOs to app designers and more. It’s pretty awesome to see the amazing careers and products women of Ottawa are building with technology.

L. to R.: Kelly, Veronic and me!

I have met so many exceptional women because of my involvement with GGDOttawa and have enjoyed helping to organize and promote these events.

Alas, as with all things in life a cycle of change is inevitable. If we’re lucky, that change doesn’t end with an end. Instead it gets reinvigorated with fresh purpose.

The new GGDOttawa planning team

This year Kelly, Veronica and I are passing the GGDOttawa ‘dinner plate’ torch to a new group of women. Samantha (who has been involved with GGDOttawa for over a year now) along with Amelia, Nyree and Dyni make up the new GGDOttawa planning team.

I wish these ladies much fun and success as they continue to promote the awesomeness of Ottawa’s technology sector while offering networking opportunities for the innovative and inspiring women of this city.

FYI: the next GGDOttawa event is set for November 21st! Visit girlgeekdinnersottawa.com for all the details!

Kelly, Veronica and Sam – it has been a pleasure working with you these past three years. To all of the people I’ve had the pleasure to meet through the GGDOttawa events, thank  you for your support!

15 minutes of GGDOttawa fame…

Just for kicks, why not check out this CTV TechNow interview from 2009 where Kelly, Veronica and I share what GGDOttawa is all about.
