six word fridays: routine

routines are good as a baseline

a course of action set – defined

bringing consistency and comfort to everyday

but…

sometimes you should shake it up!

embrace the unexpected in simple ways

by doing something *totally crazy* like…

brewing some tea instead of coffee

ditching the elevator for the stairs

reading a magazine back to front

wearing a new colour, pattern, style

saying hello to strangers passing by

instead of dropping eyes to ground

change doesn’t have to be dramatic

in order to surprise and delight

it’s a matter of twisting, tweaking

bits and pieces of the habitual

to create newย sequences of action

that said…(cue the confessional tone)

i’m a routine kind of gal

in all aspects of my life

parenting DD, routine is required; needed

with work – it’s a 9-5 deal ๐Ÿ˜‰

with blogging – i’m looking to change

with everything else – ah, endless opportunities

here i go…

doing things

out

of sequence…and

taking that daring leap into change.

I like how you altered the six lines in order to prove your point about escaping routine. Surprise and delight! Those are concepts I can get behind. I like to shake up my clothing because it’s such an easy way to feel different. Oh and I cut my hair recently and that has been great. Thanks for the reminder on how to do things a little differently.

      Hi Molly,

Yes – hair and clothes are an easy way to shake up your look and feel different. When shopping for clothes, I have a tendency to buy a lot in black. I’ve been forcing myself to choose other options (pattern, lighter colours, etc) but it’s hard! And ironically most of the colour options in the stores right now are black and gray. Go figure. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I read an interesting article on HuffPo in the divorce section about after divorce you should branch out and date new people and not keep shopping in the black t-shirt section.

Molly – lol – I get it…don’t keep going for the same style of clothes or partner!

Funny, I’ve been thinking of trying tea instead of coffee… But I always read my magazines back-to-front, so I’d have to try reading them from the beginning to really shake things up!

Ha – same here, and for some reason it really annoys DH. LOL. Even with blog posts, sometimes I start with the comments and then work my way up to the actual post. Yup. Cuz I’m *crazy* like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I too like how you shook up the 6 word thing to prove your point. AND, when I get my next Glamour, I think I’ll just try the back to front thing!

I’ve decided I need to drink more tea. Here’s to us shaking it up a little! ๐Ÿ™‚

What fun and point made and well taken. I love shaking things up a little – but even when I do, I find there are the few little things that remain constant – the way I brush my teeth etc… those thoughtles actions that build consistancy I suppose.

Now that I think about it, I brush my teeth the same way everyday too…hrm…yes and consistency is a good thing as long as it doesn’t keep you from growing as a person.

I love the way you did this. Doing things out of sequence-nice!! It’s funny I totally changed the style of clothes that I was wearing and people just gave me great compliments such as “what have you done that’s different” !By the way I love black too.

I love this suggestion– change doesn’t have to be overwhelming to be worthwhile! So often I get paralyzed by the bigness of possible change, when tiny steps or small tweaks could make a noticeable difference.

Hmm, I’ve been contemplating a radical hairstyle change. I think shaking it up is important.

I say do it! Change up the hairstyle…it’s an easy way to shake things up. Besides, it’s just hair. If you don’t like it…you can change it back. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The small changes are sometimes the hardest…the daily routines we don’t even realize are so entrenched!

Right Sara – like you’re going through the motions of them without realizing. So entrenched indeed.

I really enjoyed your post. Just curious, what kind of change are you looking for your blog? (I’m in the early stages of a blog re-do).

      Hi Vicky,

I’m still trying to figure that one out – lol. My first goal is to blog regularly, which so far…so good. I’d like to increase the frequency though…that’s something I’m still working on. I’m also looking to develop *my voice* and improve my writing.

As for other changes, I don’t know yet exactly. I’ve been thinking about a new template…we shall see…we shall see! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good luck with your own blog re-do!
